A fast food company has said it is “hugely disappointed” illegal workers were found by the UK Border Agency at a branch of its chain.
Five staff at the Borehamwood branch of McDonald’s, in Shenley Road, were found to be working in the country illegally after a raid by the UK Border Agency (UKBA) on Monday morning.
A spokesman for McDonald’s said: “We are hugely disappointed that illegal workers were found at our Borehamwood restaurant and we thank the UKBA for bringing this to our attention.
“We are fully cooperating with the UKBA’s investigation and we remain committed to working with them.”
Three of the staff members appeared in court yesterday, charged with overstaying their visas and ID fraud offences, and after legal procedures are carried out arrangements will be made for them to leave the country.
The other two workers were found to have valid student visas but were working too many hours and were taken into detention to be sent home.
A spokesman for the UKBA said there will be no action taken against McDonald’s as they did not knowingly employ the staff who turned out to be illegal workers, and fully cooperated with the agency.
