Annual budget passed by Hertsmere Borough Council
10:42pm Wednesday 22nd February 2012
A freeze on council tax for the third year in a row and extra money to help those with debt problems were part of the annual budget passed by Hertsmere council this evening.
The meeting of the full council was the final stage for the budget of 2012/2013 to be passed.
Councillor John Graham, Finance and Property Portfolio Holder said: “We have a strong budget here and key services like green bins and PSCO’s have been protected.”
Labour Councillor Ann Harrison said it was a good budget but it was uncertain how the council’s finances will look next year and the council should do more to increase its income.
Hertsmere Borough Council made most of its savings in the last financial year through redundancies and structural changes.
£37,000 has also been secured to help pay for a debt advisor for the Citizens Advice Bureau in Allum Lane, Elstree.
